The scoop on 3D
So we have had the new Samsung 55″ 3D model, the Samsung 3D blu-ray player and the 3D glasses kit in the store now for about a week. After several hours of playing with, viewing and testing the 3D product I have come to this conclusion – Its Awesome!
The 3D image might not be what you expect, if you have experienced the 3D shows at Disneyland you might be expecting everything to appear to fly out of the screen at you. The items flying out of the screen is actually what creates the strain on your eyes. The new format is much more subtle, you get an incredible feel for depth and the occasional item flying out of the screen.
The Down side: The 2D to 3D conversion of standard content is very underwhelming, really not even worth putting the glasses on.
The amount of content available today is extremely limited but there is scheduled to be several high quality 3D Blu-Ray releases later this year and there is also the promise of both satellite and cable companies to start offering 3D content including several major sporting events starting with the soccer world cup.
Overall very exciting and very promising new technology.
